Most electronic component search engines work well when searching for exact part numbers. However, if you want to perform a more advanced search, you may be out of luck. Where advanced searching is supported, it is often complicated, limited, and not user-friendly. You may need to use specific operators, wildcard characters, and other syntax to find the results you’re looking for. Wouldn’t it be much easier to just combine the search keywords in any order, and the component search engine understands what you want to find?

This is why we’re proud to announce that the TrustedParts.com search tool is starting to use Machine Learning to train an Artificial Intelligence (AI) system for the electronic components industry.

Entity Recognition

How does this work? It happens with something called “entity recognition”, also known as “named-entity recognition”.

Entity recognition starts with using machine learning to train an AI system to analyze an unstructured block of text and identify different categories of information contained in the text. For example, the text “M39029/56-351 Amphenol” has two entities – a part number, and a manufacturer name.

With entity recognition a user can perform searches without having to worry about syntax or the order of their keywords. Are you searching for a specific part number or multiple part numbers? Do you want to limit the results to a specific manufacturer? Do you need a part with certain specifications? Or are you looking for a combination of things? Whatever the case, just put your keywords into a string, and let the trained AI figure out the different categories of information you have supplied and use them to filter the parts in the results.

Get the Search Results you Expect

Our trained AI is being developed to quickly determine, with high accuracy, what you want in order to deliver the most relevant search results. For instance, previously if you searched "M39029/56-351 Amphenol”, you wouldn’t get applicable results. But now such TrustedParts.com searches will now yield the results you expect:

In addition, by knowing which manufacturers are related to others, TrustedParts.com will give you all the search results from a manufacturer family. For example, search queries for terms like "54601-908WPLF Amphenol ICC" will give you combined results for all Amphenol manufacturer brands such as Amphenol FCI, Amphenol ICC, and so forth.

The TrustedParts.com AI initiative is still in its early stages. So far we've focused our efforts on part number and manufacturer name entity recognition. However, we plan to soon support part categories, component specifications, and more - all with the goal of making sure you can design and buy with speed and confidence using the trusted source for electronic components, TrustedParts.com!

The Trusted Source for Authorized Inventory

TrustedParts.com was created by ECIA in collaboration with participating distributors as a free service to support the authorized electronic components industry by giving users access to aggregated price and availability data for genuine parts from only authorized sources.

While other inventory aggregation sites may include data from sources that are not authorized by the manufacturer, ECIA works extensively on an ongoing basis to verify that price and availability data displayed on TrustedParts.com is only for products for which the distributors are authorized/franchised. This is why TrustedParts.com is the best source for searching the authorized channel for the electronic components you need.
Membership in ECIA is not required to participate on the site.
